1999 CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS CONFERENCE, PENANG

( First Impressions Count...  by Opalyn Mok )

The way you dress and conduct yourself may well be your key to success, said Image Power director Dolly Kee. First impressions are important because it is the point where potential clients begin to form an opinion about you and your company, Kee told SunBiz last week.

Top-level management should be aware that packaging does play an important role to help clinch that million-dollar deal with clients, she added.

Later, speaking on The Power of First Impressions at the 1999 CEOs Conference here, Kee said CEOs are expected to make proper introductions and presentations at all times. They should also be well-versed in the intricacies of fine dining. So, CEOs should invest in image building to address this issue, she said.

" The power of perception must not be underestimated as a groomed businessman in a suit would probably command more trust from total strangers than one who is casually dressed.  A professional image, however, is not only about dressing & grooming. It is also about posture, behaviour and body language."

"Power, trust and credibility will be given to a well-dressed CEO with impeccable manners exuding inner confidence," she said.
